The Elephants

A few summers ago, I got a job at a huge fast fashion retail chain near Times Square, one of those stores that sells tremendous amounts of clothing for next to nothing. During our new worker orientation, we were warned to be careful about what we post on social media. One sales associate, we were told, had recently posted a photo of herself on Instagram while she was working in the fitting room, apparently captioned, “Supposed to be working haha #timestealing.” Her manager, who followed her on Instagram, saw her post. For this, she was fired.
